Brake Modifications The Y10 turbo has Disks (with single piston sliding calipers) at the front and drums at the rear. Tarox / Red Dot / grooved / drilled disks are available - see demon tweeks etc. In the past I tried to fit Uno Turbo front brakes (as they are vented) but they just don't fit - the disk is the correct offset and size (almost exactly the same size as the standard disk) but the uno calipers have very different mounting points to that of a Y10 and cannot be made to fit (the difference is such that a bracket would be very hard to mount in the space available) and the Y10 caliper is not wide enough to take the vented disk. The best "bang for buck" brake upgrade is stainless brake lines, they do not expand under pressure and therefor more of your braking effort is transferred to the disk. These are available as most brake line suppliers can make a line to the pattern of the original part. Rear disks from the Uno turbo can be made to fit as I have seen a Y10 with this modification and I did plan to do the same....but more recently I have been given details of a rear disk conversion using the calipers from a Lancia Beta and some panda parts thrown in for good measure (thanks Jack!)..details coming soon... Integrale front disk and Wilwood 4pot conversion I
now have all the part available for the front disk conversion, the parts
you will need to do the same are as follows (you will soon be able to
purchase the complete kit in the Parts Shop!):
The fitting instructions will be available here soon... |
